So he really thinks I'd run my mouth?

dear diary
Sarina

My daughter Shannon had a mini breakthrough this morning. She's seven, but her autism limits her ability to do a lot of things for herself. This morning after some Cheerios, though, she looked at me with bowl in hand and said, "All done." Hmm. Some things you just plain take for granted.

Anyway, had a little bit of trouble at work later. Alex, the principle of my school, payed a visit to my classroom. Unfortunately, it was during lunchtime, the most unruly time of the day. Michael was jumping on the bean bags and David and Sydney were fighting over an eraser. One of my aides was out sick, so the kids took advantage of the new adult-to-child ratio. When I got the kids under control, Alex pulled me aside and began to question me in a hushed voice. It went a little something like this:

How has work been lately?

Fine.

Have I been in the teacher's lounge recently?

No.

So...have I talked to anybody about last Friday night?

No, I hadn't. We'd agreed to keep it between us, because an affair between a principle and a teacher would ruin his reputation. Sometimes I think getting involved with Alex was a mistake, but whatever, I had a classroom to run, so I politely excused myself. When I got home that night, I sat in the tub for a long time with a book and ignored any and all intruding thoughts.

Tomorrow I'm leaving school early to take Elmo to the vet. I think he has a cold or something. Speaking of illness, I really hope my aide doesn't end up getting the whole class sick. That always seems to happen.

Typing about aforementioned affair on the internet is probably a really bad idea if you want him to trust you to not talk about it. Just sayin'. "Personal Space" and "Professional Space" have, if possible, less of a defined boundary now than they did back in the Early Aughts; I blame the hackers. :)
