Virtual Team in a Communication Network

Pink Dragons is a team based organization, structured around interdependent groups, using a mix of the three kinds of teams.

We are a work team, responsible for the whole work process, mostly in case of crisis. During an emergency or natural disaster, the whole organization acts interdependently to receive, shelter, give aid and set a new track for the people relocated in our area and under our care.

However, we have different projects, when we use the project team concept. For example, regardless emergency situations, the fundraising has a life of itself and our PR team manages those issues. The Education Department has its mission to permanently improve the quality of the educational act. The Research Team has to identify new direction that our programs can address, like finding new necessities for work force on the market – so we can create a new type of classes and teach the people we assist with new skills.

We have also a component of a virtual team, since we have centers all over the US and in Asia. We have daily updates over the emails about the activity of all the teams – posted on the Blackboard of the main organization, based in San Francisco / California. Once a week we have a virtual conference, where all the teams report, we fix issues and establish directions for the week ahead. In case of crisis, we use resources from all centers available and our social assistants or teachers are available to fly to a new center and start working right away, until the center in cause can hire more local people.

As a network, we can classify as a Communication network, with an all-channels structure (highly decentralized), due to the fact that everyone can communicate with everyone and we do not necessary have a leader but project managers and Department leaders.
