What would happen in 2019? - “Ravenous”

           This is the year of 2019. Mursal is a successful hardworking Middle Eastern woman, who has a wonderful job as a vocational nurse that she is content with it.  Other than working as a Registered Nurse, she also does some volunteer work.  She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have 3 children together.  She encounters many different patients every day at her job, and her job requires a high level of communication skills with patients from every walk of life.  Melody Ishin Hsiao is a Chinese bilingual educator based around bi-coastal areas in the United states, who  believes that languages are the building blocks of mutual communication, and it is not only limited to that; various forms (i.e. art, music, film, dance) should be combined into communication.  She is also involved in fostering young minds to be true bilingual. They both actively participate in several NGOs and philanthropy organizations, and subscribe to the idea that better communication can resolve unnecessary conflict.  In year 2016, they created this organization, “M&M”(Mursal & Melody), which aims to target the issue of  the scarcity of food resources that has become a threat to human beings overall development (both for their health or literacy), and they think that would further affect human rights to pursue happiness in the future. In2019, the food chain is broken, so people have to invent new ways to feed themselves. In addition, there is not a sufficient amount of water for everyone.  The influences of global warming, lack of water, crops and greens which lead to supply shortages on dairy products; malnutrition animals die which aggravates species extinction. The setback on human consumption was a huge scale of food poisoning that happened across continents. Melamine, which is commonly used in food contact materials (e.g. containers, labels, etc.) and fertilizer in agriculture, contaminates dairy products worldwide again with more lethal effect. This phenomenon constituted to a loss of confidence of buying in consumer’s behavior. People stop buying outside food. They don’t feel safe enough to do so. On the other side, the situation is worsened by the high rising and unaffordable prices of food; in many ways, cash has lost its value in the market. Food remittances have beat up cash remittances in human history.  Partnering with World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), M&M campaigns a global identity in the hope to raise awareness to target the "Ravenous". They want the public to realize that the “co-culture” they are facing now is inevitable.  We either swim or we sink together. Their aim is to enlighten humans with an alternative way to obtain food: by educating people to grow fruits/vegetables in their backyard, eat less meat, and also eat certain kinds of food that would sustain hunger and keep us full for a longer period of time, that way it can lead to less food consumption. At the same time, we encourage common people and scientist s’ to investigate and cooperate to look for other substitutes that are available for a more sustainable food resource.
